They always say that you cannot really understand
architecture on your computer. They say that it is about getting out and experiencing
it in person. It cannot be more true. I cannot put into words the experience I
had in Munich. I have thought about it for a while and there are just not
words. I will give what explanation I can, otherwise see the pictures and you
may start to understand my true awe.
We walked all day for 2 days. I have no idea how many miles
we walked but we covered a ton of ground. If my shoes weren’t broken in, they
are now. Between Pomgrats speaking German and enough of the locals speaking
English, we didn’t have many problems. The city and the people were beautiful.
I wish I had more time in Germany.
It is a 5 hr train ride from Verona to Munich and the ride
is BEAUTIFUL.
The train station itself was very interesting. There was lots of people and things to look at and some amazing food. From there we went to the hotel, dropped our stuff and started walking. We headed to the Mariaplatz and saw the churches on the way and got to see the famous church with the bells that play songs and the little men who spin and dance to the bells. (dad: thanks for the telephoto lenses… it came in handy!)
We walked and walked and walked. (see pictures) We
eventually ended up in a beer garden. It is incredible.
The next day we spent a lot of time walking around the museum
area and looking at the universitat.
We ended up at the chineese tower beer garden.
The next day we went to the BMW welt building and the Olympic
area and saw the buildings. The entire
experience was breath taking. There was a hill you could climb and see a very
impressive overview of the city.
The train home was not bad. I got to sleep some.
