Cool thing in Germany... who knows what it is |

Just follow the "A" |
So, I am sitting in the airport in Germany waiting on my
connection to Verona. Wow, even if the adventure ended here, it was
interesting.
Firstly, on the plane, the girl sitting next to me went to
Berkner HS. For those of you from Lubbock who don’t know, I went to Richardson
HS and they are only 20 min apart and Berkner is only 10 min from my house. It
was interesting talking to her. She was headed to Egypt to visit some family.
You know how in the US all of the flights charge for
alcohol? Well I asked the flight attendant what the charge for wine was and she
looked at me like I was insane. She just said, “no charge. White or red?” Then
she asked if I had had a German beer and handed me one. (but the vegetarian
meal is also Vegan…. Yeah I may be changing that for the ride home….)
Customs? What customs? No one was there and we just walked
right through. Finding the right gate was not hard. Just follow the “A” and
whatever direction the arrow is pointing. Its not too bad. And when it came to
getting through security, I got lucky because the Economy check was so full
that they were routing them to first class and I was through security in under
3 min. It was really nice.
The airport here is as much of a mall as it is an airport.
The area of the airport before you go through security was impressive. You had
so many major designers and American stores it was incredible. I stopped at
Starbucks to get a drink and I will say I was impressed with the guy who was running
the register because within the 3 min I was standing there, I heard him take
orders in at least 3 different languages.
Clearly he was good with accents as well because he knew what language
just by a person ordering a drink.
Apparently, I look German. I say that because I have been in
the airport for 30 min and I have already have 4 people come up and start
speaking to me in German…….. yes,
because I am the person to ask. NOT
I thought I was going to have problems with the time change
and the jet lag. But, I don’t know that I will have much. I am sitting here and
it is 10:45. Honestly it feels like 9 or 10 but I am not too far off. It
certainly doesn’t feel like 3:45a (Dallas time).
The guy sitting next to me here is very VERY German and it talking
to his phone. Not another person on the other end of the line. No. He is just
talking to his phone/himself. Lol.
All of the workers here ride bikes in the airport. They are little blue bikes with little
baskets in front, 20 in (or the metric equivalent) and CENTERSTANDS. The bikes
have centerstands… its weird. And really funny. Btw, they say that Americans
are loud, right? You should hear 20year old ish German boys… we have nothing on
them.
Well, time to chill before the flight...
Sorry I didn’t call mom. You had to pay €5
for internet here at the airport L.
Sounded like a lovely start to your adventure. Nice write-up. rpg2
